Commercial Lighting Repair
At LMS Electrical, we have done hundreds upon hundreds of lighting repair assignments. With our high-reaching bucket trucks, or with interior lifts, we have repaired various light fixtures at auto dealerships, churches, schools, shopping centers, office complexes and other types of locales.
Interior Lighting
Interior lighting repair can mean many different types of fixtures within a variety of spaces.
Warehouse Lighting Repair
In warehouses, it usually means the replacement of lamps and ballasts in ceiling fixtures referred to as high bay fixtures. Most often these fixtures contain 400-watt metal halide lamps and ballasts. To service such fixtures in a warehouse setting, it is usually necessary to employ some sort of lift. Depending on the interior of the warehouse and its contents, one can usually use a scissor lift, or in more challenging circumstances, an articulating boom lift. An articulating boom lift doesn’t just bring you up, it can also bring you out so that you can reach fixtures not directly above you.
Office Lighting Repair
Offices are another large category of interior lighting repair. In most offices, fluorescent lighting is used. A typical fluorescent office fixture contains four lamps and two ballasts. Depending on accessibility, these fixtures can be easily serviced. At LMS Electrical, we repair these types of fixtures frequently.
Exterior Lighting
Exterior lighting in a commercial setting most commonly falls into two broad categories: pole lighting and wall packs.
Pole Lighting
Pole lighting is found in parking lots. Generally speaking, pole light fixtures contain either 1000-watt or 400-watt metal halide lamps. Our trucks carry an abundant amount of lamps and ballasts for servicing these pole light fixtures.
Wall Pack Lighting
Wall pack lighting fixtures are attached to the walls of the building or buildings and are usually 250-watt or 400-watt. Wall packs pose a unique problem at times because they can be difficult to access since it is often difficult to service them from a bucket truck. We carry various kinds of ladders on our trucks for this exact purpose.
Other Lighting Types
Other types of exterior lighting might include walkway lighting, landscape lighting, flood lighting and lighting under canopies. The preponderance of exterior lighting is metal halide, but this is currently changing with the growing popularity of LED lighting.
Metal Halide Lighting
A metal halide fixture contains three main components: the lamp, the ballast and the capacitor. While this technology is being replaced by LED lighting that requires little to no maintenance for long periods of time, in new construction and retrofitting efforts, the majority of lighting repair is still the replacement of metal halide with metal halide. This is due to the higher initial cost required for the conversion to LED lighting. There is, however, evidence that LED is slowly dropping in cost.
